A seasoned health care professional, Ms. Burgis provides counsel and expert guidance in the areas of health policy and legislation, strategic clinical technology evaluation, and disaster preparedness and emergency response.

Ms. Burgis retired in 2008 from her position as Senior Vice President for Corporate Services of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and currently serves as a consultant to the president and CEO. The hospital is the principal affiliate of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Her responsibilities included clinical strategic planning, state and federal government affairs, and technology assessment for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the affiliated hospitals of the Robert Wood Johnson Health System.

Ms. Burgis has over thirty years of management experience in corporate and healthcare settings. Prior to joining the Hospital, she was a member of the defense business development sector of Booz-Allen Applied Research, Inc. in Washington, D.C. During her early tenure at the Hospital, Ms. Burgis' appointment was jointly supported by the Hospital and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She also served as the Hospital's Vice President for Planning. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland and Master of Science Degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

Ms. Burgis has been appointed a Leadership New Jersey Fellow. She is a founding and current member of the Executive Committee of the University Center for Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response. She is a past Chairman and served as a public member of the federally-mandated Board of The New Jersey Organ and Tissue Sharing Network. Ms. Burgis also serves on the statewide Board of Trustees of Children's Specialized Hospital Foundation. She previously served on the Executive and Finance Committees of New Brunswick Tomorrow.

Ms. Burgis participated on the health policy transition teams for Governors Christie, Corzine, McGreevey and Whitman. She participated in national professional organizations including the Association of American Medical Colleges and served as Co-Chair of the Strategic Advisory Council of the New Jersey Council of Teaching Hospitals.

State-wide honors include the Edward J. Ill Excellence in Medicine Award – Outstanding Medical Executive and the Kountz Heritage Award for Leadership. She has been recognized by several organizations including the Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce and New Brunswick Tomorrow. She has been named a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Delaware-Raritan, Inc. and Policy Maker by Executive Women of New Jersey.
